Riyadh Golf Club – new year, new venue!

The 2025 LIV Golf season will start in sensational style when we pay our first visit to the exciting city of Riyadh on February 6-8.

Fans who flock to Riyadh Golf Club, just 20 minutes from the center of the capital of Saudi Arabia, will be rewarded by the sight of some of the world’s top golfers competing for the first prize of the year.

Riyadh is home to seven million people, many of them lovers of sport and golf in particular. The game is booming in the Kingdom, with more and more people keen to play and watch it.

That makes Riyadh Golf Club the ideal place to start the new season. The welcome will

be as warm as the weather – and the competition for victory between the LIV Golf teams and their players will be red-hot.

One reason we know this is that so many LIV Golf members were at Riyadh Golf Club in December to compete for a prestigious prize – but also to do their research for our event!

Joaquin Niemann warms up for Riyadh with PIF Saudi International win

No fewer than 43 of the men who played full time with LIV Golf in 2024 were at Riyadh Golf Club for the PIF Saudi International.

Every one of our teams was represented, and team captains teeing it up included Cameron Smith of Ripper GC, winners of last year’s Team Championship, and Martin Kaymer of Cleeks GC.

But the winner was Joaquin Niemann – the skipper of Torque GC – who beat Smith and Legion XIII member Caleb Surratt with a birdie at the second hole of a dramatic playoff.

“It’s a really good way to wrap up the season,” said Niemann. “I’m really excited for what’s coming next season on LIV.”

Before the event, Niemann said: “I can work on the lines I’m trying to see, the different conditions, different winds, see how the ball reacts out of the rough and the bunkers. It’s a good week to learn for what’s coming in February.”

Kaymer agreed: “It’s always good if you have seen a golf course before. We have only 14 events and we can’t really afford to go to a course and just see how it goes. You’ve got to be as ready as possible.”

Tyrrell Hatton of Legion XIII chimed in: “I guess when we come back in February, we all hope the course is in its best condition… I think scoring will still be pretty low. It should be an interesting way to start the LIV season.”

Flagship course ideal for visitors of all standards

While the elite golfers will be eager to tame Riyadh Golf Club at February’s LIV Golf tournament, visitors all year round can expect a great experience here.

The course in its current form was designed by Scottish architect Duncan Thompson.

Opened in 2005, it is now known affectionately as the “Oasis of the Capital” and the “Pearl of the Desert”.

The scorecard shows that you can play a 5,600-yard layout off the red tees. But the pros are facing a 7,400-yard challenge off the black tees. One of the signature holes is the early par five, which measures 670 yards.

Check out the club’s website for a host of photos, while many a favorable review is to be found online, left by visitors who found the venue exceeded their expectations.

Membership fees and joint membership with Dirab

It’s an indication of how quickly golf is growing in their country that more than half the members of Riyadh Golf Club are Saudi nationals.

The club has several membership options. A single premium (Thursday to Saturday) membership costs SAR 17,995 – about $4,800. There is an option to take out joint membership with Dirab Golf & Country Club – the single premium option costs SAR 25,245 – about $6,700.

As for green fees, visitors who play at weekends pay SAR 495 for a round, which is just over $130.

One of the attractions of Riyadh Golf Club is the ability to play floodlit golf on the front nine. This is a venue with a host of activities including a driving range, padel, event spaces, and a clubhouse restaurant open from breakfast onwards.
