An Innovative Approach

LIV Golf is back in 2025 for a third official League  season, with 54 players battling it out to prove who is king of the course as they compete around 14 epic global locations.

But that’s just the start; with LIV Golf League’s unique format it’s not just about chasing personal glory, it’s about being part of a winning team.

LIV Golf has brought together 13 powerhouse teams consisting of four players, each led by elite captains who have reached the very highest levels of the game.

Each LIV Golf player and every team has a shared mission to provide non-stop, supercharged, world-class entertainment – with the ultimate aim of finishing No.1.

New Traditions

LIV Golf is creating new champions while reinvigorating the game loved by millions.

The prestigious Individual Championship will be awarded to the player who has scored the most points throughout LIV’s scintillating season of global events.

Success as an individual will be celebrated by their teammates too, as every single point earned by members for the individual standings can count towards the hotly contested Team Championship.

Three-day Events

LIV Golf reaches across continents to bring fans more than just a game of golf.

From February to August, LIV’s brand of turbocharged entertainment will be unleashed at 14 prestigious locations across the continents, with the promise of thrilling battles on the course, live music and fun-packed fan zones.

This is golf for the 21st century.

The non-stop action gets under way with a shotgun start – meaning there will be 18 groups of players spread around the course at each hole, all teeing off at the same time.

Over three days of fast-paced competition there are no cuts, so all 54 players are in the game from the first drive right up to the final putt.

While 52 of those players will be attached to one of LIV Golf’s 13 talent-rich teams, there are also two places in the League for Wild Card players who will have the chance to impress during the year.

As you would expect, the LIV Golf player with the lowest score after 54 holes wins, but everybody has something to play for as their individual performance contributes to their team’s success.

During the first two days, only the top three players’ scores from each team will count towards the team’s round, but on day three the action heats up as all scores will be combined to help determine the overall team standings.

As with the individual competition, the team with the lowest total score wins the title.

So, after three days of thrill-a-minute golf we’ll have one winning player and one triumphant team to cheer on the podium.

Getting To The Point

Let’s break down the scoring for those of you who want to know the finer details.

At each event, the top 24 golfers on the leaderboard from the field of 54 players will earn points.

The winner will take a 40-point haul, second place gets 30 and third 24. For the remainder it’s a sliding scale of scores down to 21st to 24th place, who earn one point each.

For the team competition, the top eight earn points with 32 for the top team, 24 for the runners up and 16 for third place.

Again, there’s a sliding scale of points awarded down to 8th place which gets one point.

The Individual Championship

The Individual Championship standings are finalised after the 13th event of the year, just ahead of the Team Championship’s end-of-season showdown.

It’s a straightforward process where the player with the most points earned through those 13 events is crowned champion.

Every place in the final standings is important as it not only allocates prize money, it will also determine each player’s status with the league for the following season.

The players are divided into the following three categories based on their final placing:

The Lock Zone (top 24 places)

These players are guaranteed a contract offer for the following season. If their old contract is expiring, their team will automatically offer an extension.

The Open Zone (25-48)

These players can stay in the league, but their current team is under no obligation to extend their contract if it’s expiring.

The Drop Zone (49 and below).

These players are vulnerable to relegation from the league but do have the opportunity to win their place back.

Deciding the Team Championship winners

In Friday’s quarter-finals the highest seeded teams get to choose their opponents from the pool of lower seeded clubs.

The quarter-final clashes are decided using matchplay golf. For each quarter-final the teams play their opponent on a hole-by-hole basis until one team can’t be caught.

For example, if a team establishes a lead of three holes by the time they have finished on the 16th green, that team will win that specific match as there are only two holes remaining and their score can’t be matched or overtaken.

Each quarter-final involves three competitive games featuring players from both teams; two singles matches and one foursome.

It is the same set-up for Saturday’s semi-finals but on Sunday the format reverts to the more traditional strokeplay, where a player’s cumulative score for the round is weighed up against par for the course.

All 52 team players will tee off on Sunday in a shotgun start, with every member’s score counting towards his team’s overall total.

The team with the lowest score among the clubs contesting positions 1-4 will be crowned LIV Golf Team Champions.

It’s LIV Golf - it’s lively, it’s loud and it’s taking golf into the future.

Welcome to the LIV Golf League.
