Hatton’s victory the latest success story for LIV Golf players on other tours
Tyrrell Hatton’s win Sunday at the DP World Tour's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland continues an impressive run of form by LIV Golf players on other tours.
In the last 12 months, LIV Golf players have won more individual titles (16) on other tours than in their own LIV Golf League.
That 16-win total includes nine wins in 2024 along, with seven wins in the last three months of the 2023 calendar year. In the same 12-month span, LIV Golf has held 14 regular-season tournaments.
Since the debut of LIV Golf in June 2022, 15 different LIV Golf players – nearly one-third of the 2024 roster – have won a combined 21 non-LIV Golf events (see table below).
Among those wins are two majors – Brooks Koepka at the 2023 PGA Championship and Bryson DeChambeau at the 2024 U.S. Open – along with Richard Bland’s two senior major wins this year.
LIV Golf players have won tournaments co-sanctioned by no less than eight different tours, including the Asian Tour, PGA Tour, DP World Tour, Champions Tour as well as tours in Australia, South Africa, Japan and Mexico.
The win total could very well increase in the new few months.
Hatton plans to compete in the DP World Tour playoffs events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, while his Legion XIII captain Jon Rahm, the 2024 LIV Golf Individual Champion, is expected to play the Andalucía Masters.
"I can have four weeks off, and then I'll be fresh, hopefully ready to play some good golf in Abu Dhabi," said Hatton, whose Dunhill Links win at St Andrews came after his fourth straight week of competition, including the final two tournaments of the 2024 LIV Golf season.
Cameron Smith, captain of the 2024 Team Champions Ripper GC, is slated to play in four tournaments in his native Australia, including the Australian Open. Making his 12th start in his national open, Smith will be seeking his first win.
“I think most people would know how much I want to win an Australian Open," Smith said, "so I am looking forward to challenging for the Stonehaven Cup again this year in Melbourne."
Smith likely won't be the only Ripper to compete in Australia. In addition, Torque GC Captain Joaquin Niemann will look to defend his Australian Open title.
Stinger GC players had plenty of success last year in DP World Tour events in their native South Africa, with captain Louis Oosthuizen and Dean Burmester each winning twice, and will look to add to their total this off-season.
On the Asian Tour, multiple LIV Golf players have scheduled appearances during the final stretch of International Series events, starting with next week's Black Mountain Championship. Among the LIV Golf players in the field in Thailand are Crushers GC's Paul Casey, RangeGoats GC's Peter Uihlein and Fireballs GC's Eugenio Chacarra.
