The 2025 LIV Golf League season starts Feb. 6 in Riyadh. Here’s a quick look at Kevin Na’s Iron Heads GC.

OVERVIEW

Lineup

  • Kevin Na (Captain), USA
  • Yubin Jang, South Korea
  • Jinichiro Kozuma, Japan
  • Danny Lee, New Zealand

Who’s New? Jang, the 22-year-old budding star who was the Korean Tour’s top player in 2024, was the team’s big offseason acquisition. He fills the lineup spot created by Scott Vincent’s relegation.

The Offseason: It’s been a busy offseason for the Iron Heads. Besides signing Jang, the team also was involved in LIV Golf’s new partnership with Coupang Play, with Korea’s largest e-commerce company serving as the team’s principle partner. Coupang Play also becomes the presenting sponsor for LIV Golf Korea, with the Iron Heads (especially their three Korean-born players) planning to be heavily involved in the promotion of LIV Golf’s first event in that country … Lee, Jang and Lee participated in a unique charity event against the Grass League’s Minnesota Muskies in January.

Going to be a good year if … they build on the momentum from the Team Championship.

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS

Optimism – With a new next-gen star, a home event and an eye-popping performance last season in Dallas, the team is trending up.

Identity – The Iron Heads have been considered as LIV Golf’s Asian team, and the roster reflects the identity across the entire lineup.

Jang Time – After two wins and six other top-3s last season in Korea, Jang gives the Iron Heads a powerhouse youngster.

OPPORTUNITIES

More than a blip – Was the T-2 finish Dallas a sign of things to come or did the team just catch lightning in a bottle?

Scoring history – The team’s cumulative counting score of 350 under for the first three seasons is 74 strokes more than any other team.

WORTH NOTING

READY TO ELEVATE? 22-year-old Yubin Jang enters his first season in LIV Golf with impressive credentials – three Korean Tour wins, and Player of the Year and Order of Merit winner in 2024. With nothing left to prove on that tour, he’ll now get the chance to step against a LIV Golf field with 14 major winners. “Last year was a great season,” Jang said through his interpreter. “Wondering if my game is good enough for the world stage, I’m looking forward to playing on LIV and seeing where my skill level is.”

He has an aggressive goal this season – to finish inside the top 5 in the Individual Championship race. His captain isn’t about to put any limitations on his new player. “Lot of talent,” said Kevin Na. “Lot of potential.”

One thing still being discussed – how should Jang refer to the 41-year-old Na? Danny Lee uses the Korean term for “big brother” when referring to Na, as do other younger Koreans. But as Jang told Na one day, “There’s such a big age gap, I don’t know if I can call you that.” Responded Na: “Don’t me feel old, come on.”

Said Jang: “From now on, I’ll call him a big brother. That’s easier.”

LIV GOLF KOREA. The Iron Heads have May 2-4 circled on their calendars. That’s when they’ll compete as the “home” team at Jack Nicklaus Golf Course in South Korea. With three Korean-born players (and the other player from Japan), the Iron Heads will be huge support that week. But with that support comes expectations and pressure.

“A lot of pressure,” Na said. “And you know that week there’s going to be a ton of obligations. Look, we want to win, and we hope to win and we’re going to do everything we can to win.”

He also realizes that the event should benefit the team off the course as well. “This is the first time we’ll be introducing the Iron Heads to Korea,” Na said. “Growing the brand, growing the popularity and the interest is big.”

LEE SEEKS CONSISTENCY. Danny Lee is the only Iron Head to ever celebrate atop a LIV Golf podium, having won the individual playoff in Tucson in 2023. But he’s never been a consistent threat in his two years since joining the league. “My highs are very high, and my lows are very low,” Lee said. “Trying to fix that.”

One of his primary objectives in the offseason was to work on his short game. He has a new short game coach who has quickly made an impact. “My short game has improved already,” Lee said. I cannot wait to try these new shots during tournament days.”

CAPTAIN'S LAST WORD

I feel very pleased with the way things are going for us on and off the golf course. I think this is just the beginning. This is a turning point for the Iron Heads and 2025 is going to be an amazing year.Kevin Na
