Cameron Smith (AUS, captain)

It’s tempting to see Smith’s trademark mullet, and to listen to his softly spoken words, and assume he’s the laid-back, easy-going Aussie of popular stereotype. Tempting, but utterly wrong.

Smith is a ferocious competitor of the very highest quality. His final round of 64 to win The Open Championship in 2022 was typical of the man, and three LIV Golf victories in his first two seasons – added to that Team Championship – prove he deserves his place at the very top of the game.

Marc Leishman (AUS)

Marc Leishman has been a core member of Ripper GC alongside Smith from the start, and has obviously bought into the strong Aussie team ethic that has been key to the team’s success.

He was Rookie of the Year on the PGA Tour in 2009 and has won six times on the Tour since then. A regular fixture in the top 50 of the world rankings, he has gone close to Major glory at the Masters and The Open Championship.

Lucas Herbert (AUS)

Lucas Herbert joined the LIV Golf roster in 2024 and, still in his twenties, provided a youthful contrast to the more experienced Smith and Leishman.

He bought into the collective ethos of Ripper GC immediately and was a key part of the Team Championship victory.

Smith said of him during the season: “Herby has been a great addition. He’s got that young blood in him, he wants everyone to do well, and he keeps pushing the old boys.”

Matt Jones (AUS)

Jones has been at Smith’s side since the earliest days of LIV Golf, and played a full part in Ripper GC’s superb Team Championship victory in 2024.

The six-footer from Sydney has been a pro since 2001, and is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, most recently at the 2021 Honda Classic.

His lowly placing in the 2024 LIV Golf standings led to suggestions that Jones might be replaced, but Smith clearly sees him as an integral member of the Rippers, saying simply: “Everything’s staying the same.”
