Gritty 7th-place finish for RangeGoats in the UK
It was a crucial week for RangeGoats Golf Club entering LIV Golf UK by JCB. The team was in ninth place in the season-long team standings, and with only three events remaining before the Team Championship in Dallas, a quick start was needed.
And that’s exactly what they did. RangeGoats GC started hot on Friday and kept it going through the weekend before finishing T7 at JCB Golf & Country Club. While it might appear that the team finished well back, it actually only finished two shots out of a tie for third. It was a clear sign that the team, which didn’t give up any ground in the standings, will give it their best until the end.
Matthew Wolff and Peter Uihlein led the way. They were tied for eighth entering the final round and were well within striking distance before the leaders started to separate. Wolff continued his remarkable bounce-back season and led his team with a T6 finish while Uihlein ended at T14.
Wolff now has four straight finishes of T17 or better and is 16th in the individual standings. Uihlein, meanwhile, is No. 26 and had his best finish since the second event of the season.
Captain Bubba Watson came out quickly and was flashing on the leaderboard Friday. He was 1 under through the first two rounds, including a nice 2-under 69 in Round 1, and closed with a 2-over 73 to finish T39. It was a nice rebound after a T47 in Spain.
Thomas Pieters didn’t get off to a good start, and neither of his scores were counted in the first two rounds. But he battled back with a 2-under 69 on Sunday and finished T29. Pieters currently stands No. 33 in the season-long individual standings.
The team will have three weeks off before heading to the United States for LIV Golf Greenbrier, which takes place Aug. 16-18. The Old White Course in West Virginia has been the setting for plenty of memorable performances on the LIV Golf League.
The course has hosted numerous professional events and is known for its tight, tree-lined fairways and undulating greens. It’s the first 18-hole golf course at The Greenbrier and was designed by Charles Blair Macdonald before opening for play in 1914. The course was named for the well-known Old White Hotel, which stood on the grounds from 1858-1922.
